How to Drive Traffic to Your Website Using Facebook Fan Pages

I see so many people posting their business or opportunities in Facebook groups. If this is what you’re doing, you’re missing a great opportunity to use some of Facebook’s resources to brand yourself or your website for the purpose of generating traffic.

Specifically I’m talking about creating a Facebook Fan Page that is dedicated to your website or your brand. Using Facebook Fan Pages gives you the opportunity to engage an audience add social proof and providing valuable content to brand yourself and your business. To make this work, you want to make sure that you just don’t put up a page and not stay active on it. You really have to be social but at the same time you can’t forget to think about how social marketing plays a role in attracting an audience.

And it’s not just about publishing fluffy, shareable content purely to get noticed. It’s about building a profitable social marketing strategy where you don’t waste your time.

Facebook business pages are designed to help you connect with your audience while giving readers the opportunity to share your content with their personal communites.

Here’s a few strategies for doing that…

Let’s Talk About EdgeRank

What is it? EdgeRank is an algorithm that Facebook uses to determine where your post shows up in the newsfeed and how long it stays there. There are three main components in this algorithm that you should know about:

Affinity Factors: Facebook measures how connected you are with your audience or brand, Facebook delivers relevant content based on your ongoing relationship including any relationship your friends have with a certain page… remember, Facebook IS a business that is interested in making money from folks in it.

Weight Factors: Facebook considers posts with photos or videos more valuable than posts with plain text or links. Visual content like this will rank higher in Facebook’s newsfeed. Facebook also takes into account the level of interaction a particular post receives so the more people engage with your post, the more you can increase overall reach and visibility in the newsfeed.

Decay Factors: Relevancy is REALLY important to Facebook! Social media, in general, is all about finding the latest and most relevant information as it happens, Facebook is no different to the rule. You’ll notice that most of your posts happens just minutes after you publish it. Content quickly loses value (decays) as time passes to avoid irrelevant posts showing up in your feed.

Now that you have an idea what EdgeRank is, you can manipulate your content to encourage engagement and spike interest in your Facebook community.

So What Do You Need to Do? …

  1. Create a Facebook Fan Page and brand yourself or a Facebook page for your business. Put a lot of care into designing an attractive Cover Photo.
  2. Add relevant, enticing content to it or interesting social proof. Don’t forget to link to it from your own personal profile so that you can capture some of the people in your community.
  3. Add photos to your posts whenever possible. If you are posting about your latest blog article, add the featured image to your Facebook post and include a link in the message.
  4. If you’re clever and super fancy, you can add text to your image using Photoshop or even Paint so that your fans will know right away what your post is about.
  5. Now instead of adding posts in groups that link out to your website, link to your Facebook Fan Page so that you can capture the interest of your audience.
