Getting Your Own Domain Name for Your Affiliate Website

In my video below, I’m going to walk you through the steps of getting your own domain name for your affiliate website or your home-based business member website. It’s easy to do and should take you about 5 – 10 minutes. I’ll outline the steps below.

Just in case you don’t know what a domain name is, it’s your personal URL (.com, .net, .biz, .org, etc.). Make sure to choose a domain name that is EASY for you and other people to remember.

Oh, and please excuse the quality of the sound of the video. I’m not sure what happened there, but you should still be able to make out what I’m saying.

There are a number of domain name providers that I’ll list. The first one is what I’m using in the video.

Steps to Getting your Domain Name:

  1. In the Search Domain field enter your choice for a domain. Don’t include the extension (.com, .org, etc.), just your desired name then hit search.
  2. When the results are displayed, choose your desired extension. They all have varying prices.
  3. Proceed to the Shopping Cart to pay for it, you don’t need hosting or any other product or feature that they will try to sell you. At some point here, you will need to set up your own account with the company. That’s a good idea to do since you may come back and purchase more domains or you’ll need this so you can return to renew your domain when it expires. This also gives you access to all of the backoffice features and functions of your domain name.
  4. At the shopping cart, keep in mind that they will probably give you a larger price based on multiple years of usage. You have the option to choose 1-year and renew it every year.
  5. You’ll see a link to access your account or domain name.
  6. In the account area, click on Domains to manage your domain names. Click on your domain name or the “Manage” button.
  7. In the Domain Details page, it should default to the Settings tab. In the list, click on the “Manage” link next to “Forwarding”.
  8. In the Forwarding and Masking page, click on ADD FORWARDING. Enter your affiliate link in the “Forward To” field without, the http:// in front of your link. That prefix is provided for you in the drop down box in front of the field.
  9. Under Forward Settings, hit the drop down and change to “Forward with Masking”.
  10. Hit ADD then hit SAVE. Your done! You can test your new domain name in about 3 – 5 minutes.
