10 Reasons Why Online Marketers Should Have a Blog

It’s no secret, everyone knows that any growing business needs an online presence, even an online marketer. So, is having a simple website going to cut it? Most likely, the answer to that question is no. A majority of businesses are turning to social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter as another avenue to expose their business. In addition, the majority of businesses also have blogs. Here are 10 reasons why I think a blog would be beneficial to you and your business as an online marketer.

1. SEO (Search Engine Optimization): One of the keys to making your business is successful is being found on the internet. And, one way to increase the odds that the search engines will find you, is frequently updating your blog with pertinent key words that you can include in every post and page of your blog. Most websites feature this but a blog is an ideal place to do this as you can write a number of different articles on different topics that will be key word-rich.

2. Personal Branding: A blog can allow you to write copy and posts that are personalized to reflect who you are, your personality and your business objectives. Blog posts are a great way to let readers and potential customers see into the more personal side of your business. It’s a great way for people to come to know, like and trust you.

3. Sharing Value: People will be more inclined to do business with you if you share something that they find valuable. Do you want to be known as an expert in your field? A blog is a great place to portray that. If you consistently blog about topics that directly relate to your business and your market you will dramatically increase the likelihood that you’ll be seen as an expert and grow a following.

You can network with other professionals or start conversations with potential customers. Blogs typically allow for comments on each post so it’s a great way to converse with others. This builds upon the opportunity to personalize your business; customers love it when they can easily communicate with business owners.

5. Dedication to your business: Having an active blog takes time and dedication. What better way to show the world that you are dedicated to your business and believe in your passion? By writing regularly, you are demonstrating your commitment to your business and your customers.

6. Free Marketing: Who doesn’t want free marketing for their business? Although it can be time consuming, blogging is essentially very low cost, some are even free. Marketing budgets are always tight. Utilizing the low-cost and free tools that are available only makes good business sense. Again, it takes time and dedication but the benefits can definitely justify the cost.

7. Social Sharing/Going Viral: Social media has really taken the business and marketing worlds by storm. By regularly posting in your Facebook posts about one of your new blog posts, you make it easy for others to share and spread the word about your business and products. It only takes a click and someone with thousands of followers can tweet your link. This definitely increases your chances of exposure.

8. Opinion: A blog isn’t a place for static marketing copy. It’s a place where you can express yourself and offer your own opinions on things happening in the business world and in your particular market. Your opinion doesn’t really have a place on your traditional web pages, but fits perfectly into blog posts.

9. Links: If you have a blog and are recognizing others in your industry, or somehow giving kudos to others, chances are they’ll be more likely to do the same for you. It’s a type of ‘I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine’ type of networking. Mentioning colleagues and other business partners has become a common way to thank someone. And, the more links to you that are out there (especially on blogs), the better your SEO will be.

10. Competition: Most likely your competition has a blog. You don’t want to let them outdo you that easily, do you? By writing blog posts regularly, it forces you to keep up on the competition and see what’s happening out there in your market. There are several benefits to this!
